Kelly Mothersell Wildlife Area
Concession 7, Part Lot 13 84.35 acres (named Kelly Mothersell Wildlife Area)
Geographic Township of Derby, now Township of Georgian Bluffs
This property is adjacent to the Long Swamp Wetlands Complex, and shares a similar purpose. This property is part of the Long Swamp Class 1 Wetland, located within the Pottawatomi River watershed. This property was dedicated to Kelly G. Mothersell in May of 2001. Kelly and his wife, Jean, were instrumental to conservation, and the fund raising done by the two helped grow the nearby Not For Profit organization, Sydenham Sportsmen's Association, as well as this charity as a benefit of this success.
The area, being similar to the Long Swamp Wetlands Complex, is critical for supporting a winter deer yard, which will benefit from the planting of cedar trees and clover in open spaces. With its diverse lowlands and uplands, the complex provides varied habitats for both resident and migratory wildlife.
