W. Douglas Reid Conservation Area
Concession 2, North 1/2 Lot 3
100 acres
Geographic Township of Derby, now Township of Georgian Bluffs, County of Grey
This conservation area is dedicated to the memory of Doug Reid, an active conservationist and sportsman in the Owen Sound area until his passing in 1991. The property features upwelling cold-water streams that feed directly into the Sydenham River, which meanders along the entire western boundary. The accompanying wetlands provide vital habitats for migratory birds and other wildlife reliant on a healthy environment.
The eastern thirty acres, formerly used for cattle pasture, are now earmarked for wildlife habitat enhancement over the coming years. A master plan is underway to further enhance the fisheries and wildlife habitat on this environmentally sensitive property.
